Bible Reading Plan FAQ

In the past few years, I've received a number of questions about the plan. Here are some of the most freqently asked questions:

Q:Do you have an e-mail subscription option?
A: Yes, I finally created one! You can subscribe below.
Get the Bible reading e-mailed to you daily!
E-mail Address:
Q:Can I use your Bible Reading Plan in my church newsletter, etc.?
A:Absolutely! If you would, please reference this site (http://www.bible-reading.com) as the source. Also, if you're creating a printed product (a calendar, a bookmark, etc.), I would love to see a copy. Send me an e-mail and I'll give you my mailing address.

Q:I noticed that your Bible Reading Plan doesn't start at the beginning of the year. Why?
A:It did when in 1996 (when I started it), but since it's a 52 week plan (364 days) instead of a 1 year plan, I finish a day or two early each year and start over again. I have now created an option where you can choose a custom start date.

Q:How do you recommend using the Bible Reading Plan?
A:I've heard a number of different ways to use the plan from different people. Some read it online daily. Some print a monthly calendar. Some print the one-page plan. Myself, I print the one-page plan each year and then every day I check off what I read.

Q:Help! I started the plan, but got behind. How do I catch up?
A:First, make sure that TODAY you start reading at least one reading per day so that you don't get further behind. There are several different things you can do.
  1. There's nothing magical about the one year (or 52 week) time frame. If you've missed a week, just pick up where you left off and make it a "53 week" plan.
  2. If you've missed less than a week, try doing double-readings on the days of the week that you previously missed. You got behind one day at a time. Rather than getting caught up all in one day, catch up one day at a time.
  3. Maybe you have one day with a lot of free time. Make it a catch-up day! We've all had days where we've read hundreds of pages in a good book. Why not do it with the Bible?
  4. Use some combination of the above. If you've missed 17 days, you can do double readings for 3 days, extend your plan a week, and have a catch-up day for the other week.
Most importantly, let me say again... Continue reading at least one reading per day. When you get behind, it's too easy to just stop altogether. It's better to be behind than stopped.

Q:I've tried to be consistent with my readings, but I keep falling behind. What can I do?
A:There are a few things that you can do which might help:
  1. Get an accountability partner--someone who will ask you daily how your reading, prayer life, and other things are going. Encourage one another to grow spiritually.
  2. Read the daily reading as early as possible in the day. You'll be far less likely to forget if it's the first thing you do. Also, you'll get quite a spiritual boost by making the Bible first each day! I don't think it's by chance that David said "early will is seek thee" in the Psalms 63:1.

Q:What are the different Bible versions?
A:KJV = King James Version
NIV = New International Version
NASB = New American Standard Bible
RSV = Revised Standard Version
Darby = Darby's Translation
YLT = Young's Literal Translation

Q:Is there any special reason that you've assigned a particular part of the Bible to a specific day of the week?
A:No. The plan divides the Bible into seven general types of readings (The Law, History, Psalms, Poetry, Prophecy, Gospels, and Epistles). Each day of the week is a different type of reading. Some are longer and others are shorter. Some are stories and some are more in-depth readings. I just put them in order, but you're welcome to switch the readings around if you would rather have a different type of reading on a specific day of the week.

Q:Can I link to your site?
A:Sure! I would recomend linking to either the daily reading page (http://www.bible-reading.com/daily-reading.html) or the home page (http://www.bible-reading.com). I'll try to keep all of the pages in their original places, but can't make any guarantees that they won't move.

Q:Can you add a link to my site?
A:I don't really have a links page, but if I add one in the future, ask me again and as long as the material is appropriate, I'll gladly link to your page.

Q:Can I customize the online reading so that I can read online starting at the beginning of the plan instead of in the middle?
A:Not yet, but that's a feature that I hope to add soon!

Q:Could you mail me a printed copy of the plan?
A:Sure, just drop me an e-mail with your address. Or, even faster, you can download a copy and print it out yourself.

Q:How do I turn off the music?
A:There is a link near the top of the page to turn the music on or off.

Q:Is 'fill_in_the_blank' in the Bible?
A:Try looking in one of the many Bible search pages on the web (for instance, http://www.biblestudytools.net). If you still need help finding something, let me know and I'll try to find it.

Q:Can you recommend some Bible readings for my wedding?
A:Sure! I've made a special page for Bible Readings for Weddings.
